The James A. and Martha R. Brown Foundation is the legacy of Jim and Martha Brown, who were prominent business leaders and philanthropists. The Foundation was established in 2018 as a continuation of their lifetime of enhancing and supporting communities.

Jim and Martha were native Kentuckians and graduates of the University of Kentucky. Upon Jim’s discharge as a pilot with the United States Air Force, the Browns put down roots in Harrison County where he began employment with Kawneer, a manufacturing facility.

Jim was the fourth licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) in Kentucky, the Mayor of Cynthiana, the Commissioner, a board member of Harrison Memorial Hospital, and a prolific business owner.
Martha was a nursing home administrator and owner, a member of various community clubs, and a former Sunday School teacher. Martha bonded closely with people, especially her nursing home residents.

Jim and Martha owned a variety of businesses, including a hotel, an ambulance service, construction companies, banks, residential and commercial rental properties, various retail businesses, and nursing homes.

Their integrity, innovation, business acumen and civic efforts to improve the well-being of citizens profoundly impacted their communities and are the achievements that will live on through the Foundation they envisioned.
